With so few waterchanges as he does I can understand that the pH is that low, but as Heiko asks the conduktivity is very interesting. I would think it is higher than we think is the best for Heckels because of those few waterchanges.

Its very easy to get a very low ph in a big tank with a big organik filter like a sump or bottom filter.Like the other say its very interesting to now the conduktivity ,,,but i also think its high !!
The water can not be softer after all feeding and no water exchange !!,,,I think ,,, ,,so i agree with you Bosse !!

Im still confused. Nitrification is gradually being reduced at pH 6.5 and under pH 6 its almost non-existent.
So a filter works only mechanically at a low pH of 3.9 and how can you get it stable at that level?

Yepp thats one option to have good waterquality but that dosent make the stable low Ph level. I also think there must be some Carbonates involved.

if you have 200 times less nitrification at a low pH you could use a filter 200 times bigger....
