I think we read everywhere to raise the temp to speed up the life cycle of some pests like ICH to kill them when they're in their free swimming stage. Not sure how it works for bacterial infections. Increasing temp only means that the multiply faster too does it not? :dontknow:

When we get sick, our immune system automatically heats up when the body produces antibodies to fight off disease. Does a fish need us to interfere when it's sick? In fact for humans we need to cool down or we'll get brain damage. Of it's silly of me to compare humans with cold blooded animals so...I'll :shys: LOL

Bringing up the temperature to between 30 and 32c is good when the fish is infested with ich or flagellates. This is because that temperature is favored for proliferation ....so most of the parasites will come out of cover to down down to the bottom of tank to lay their cysts/spores...whatever...and that is when the effect of treatment or medication is most effective and have a higher percentage of success :hura3: .

But if the discus are chronically sick and you don't know what the cause or the culprit is :confus1: ....could be multiple :dontknow: .....then raising the temperature is not advised as that may stress and choke them further  .

Finally......however the temperature is raised, never 35C :nono: ...might miss a point and kill your darlings.

Take care

Hi Andrew I think we are officially satalking each other and must be sisters.

Raise heat - think metabolism and associated cost - benefits same too for microbes.

I have seen with my own two eyes and a microscope the effects of high spironucleus infection & tape worm on a discus.

The discus lived for a long time with these, and was permanently thin. Anyting to wekaen the immune system, and increase the effect of these parasites would bedetrimental without proper diagnosis and treatment.

Sometimes the medicine and 'old wives tales' need to stay locked, unless correct diagnosis is available.

IMO of course.

increase metabolism, increase microbes [much work on 'bugs' in tha past has been not been on trop freshwater sp.] increase stress on immune response, less oxygen (yes you can have more water movement = more stress] so not always good.
