RIGHT :stick: :stick: :stick:

Just seen some posts of Wild Fish in Sweden. I expect the Wild Category to be the best at any NDS show. Last time was good but there is no reason for this time to be better. Wild fish often take longer to settle into a show tank but if you prepare them correctly they will not be stressed in the show tank and look really nice. This is of course if you do the preparation work :tumme2: :tumme2: :tumme2:

Any questions just shout :2tubsup: :2tubsup: :2tubsup:

Tips on selecting a show wild fish.

1. Look for an active fish
2. Look for a good size (wild fish maybe slow to grow)
3. See the wilds feeding if possible
4. Look for a nice coloured eye (a dull eye can indicate health issues)
5. If you want a solid fish then look for the most solid fish, if you want to show a striped fish look for a fish with the most even patterns)
6. Check the fish head on and make sure both gills are working and the fish does not look thin at the forehead
7. Wild Fish often do not do well with domestics so try and keep wilds with wilds
8. Plan ahead and do your best to have a rigid q-tine procedure
9. Check overall shape and fins generally. Minor damage can be repaired pre show if there is enough time.
10. The main job IMO is to make a wild fish confident and happy in a show tank. If you can do this then you have a great opportunity to WIN the wild class :hurra1: :longnose: :hurra2: :hurra1: :longnose: :hurra2:

I have some damaged fins, how do I repair them? Cut them?

How is that done? I have my wilds in the livingroom whre the kids are running, just like Jason is doing with his fish and it works out well for him.

Hi Andreas :hello3: :hello3: :hello3:

Minor damage can be cured with good clean water and possibly a broad spectrum bactericide. I would not recommend cutting a fin only because I have not needed to do it. Andrew Soh has an article on it but that would be for major damage IMO.

Some people forget that like all animals discus have emotions. Maybe not to the same extent as a cat or a dog but until I see evidence of this I will then believe it :2tubsup: :2tubsup: :2tubsup: Domestics can be outgoing and adventurous so its less of a problem. Wilds on the other hand are used to shooting for cover when they get spooked in the wild. They also have leadership and a pecking order in the wild. The trick is to get them feeding from your hand and they will trust you. Once they are comfortable with this they will not spook when someone (in a show arena) puts their hand to a tank :shys: :shys: :shys:

Bosse, can you send me a link to the thread please :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Best Regards...................Tony

The main categories (which often vary from show to show) are Size, Shape, Behaviour, Eyes, Fins, AVQ, ADQ, Markings I, Markings II or Defects.

Wild Fish are a little more difficult to prepare but once you know the requirements then the rest is a little easier. To my knowledge I am the only guy in the World to win GC at an International Show with a Wild Fish (and I did it twice) :confus1: :confus1: :confus1:

Are you coming to the show in Malmo ? If so I am more than happy to go through scores and comments in more detail.

Best Regards.............Tony
Do you have any pic on that fish?
