I have no clue, what this might be. But there are one or two things, that come into mind:

1. Something that remotely has some likeness to those things on the photo, are the tentacles of the free stadium (Polype) of an Coelenterat called "Polypodium". But then, it does not cause the problems you see on the fish. Polypodium is a superparasite, that parasites on other parasites, if you understand what I mean. It is most often found on animals living close to the bottom of the sea. It does not hurt the fish themselves, but sometimes their eggs. In any case, I dont really think, that this is what you have photographed.

2. Its much more likely a sporangia of some mykotic disease. This would not surprise me, because the skin of the fish seems to be affected, and damaged skin is prone to Mykotic infections. You probably have visual confirmation of this by now. I suggest, you do not treat this separately, but the underlying sickness instead. Perhaps a bacterial infection that started the whole thing?

Hi
Christina is right in my opinion.
I look in my books and found mikroscopic photo that looks almost identical to your picture.
It is Saprolegnia sp.
Like she said, you have to treat bacterial infection first.

Sounds comforting, tjen. I whish you luck with the further treatment! I also like to suggest some extra minerals in the food after the treatment is finished. Sick and stressed fish always lack minerals and vitamins for some time afterwards.
